Yes, definitely teach your older kids to do their own laundry. All the ins and outs. Have them a certain day of the week so they are not leaving their laundry laying in the machines.

Put compost in your soil and mix it. Then plant. Start with just tomatoes, cucumbers and beans. They are the easiest to grow. Beans grow in any soil just son't like cold or wet feet.

In my budget are maximum and minimium amounts to spend on nonfixed expenses and I have added another column , what I actually soent. I am saving the receipts and it should be interesting. Max is for months I have good money as my income does vary somewhat. Minimum is for months money is super tight

I had the same thing happen with my hair and found out it was an iodine deficiency from using just real salt which as I am sure you know has no iodine added. So I added in extra iodine for a few months and then now I just use a multivitamin that has iodine and my hair is good. Oh btw, I love these videos and the real, honest talk!!

If keeping up with a physical notebook of your expenses is too much then an app might be a good solution. I use You Need A Budget. I've been using it for over 10 years (I started when it was an application that you installed on your computer). You can have the app synch up with your bank accounts automatically so you do not have to keep track manually.

This might help you out on your budget too: Try having a meatless night once a week. I buy a bag of red beans or kidney beans and turn them into these meals to stretch things: Start out with red beans cooked with smoked sausage( one link cut into half moon shapes will season them really well. Serve over white rice topped with some green onions and cornbread to go with the beans. Next take some of the beans and sausage (if any is left in the beans), and add them to make a pot of chili with by substituting the red beans & sausage for beans you usually use in your chili( gives great flavor and depth of flavor and seasoning). Next use some of the beans to make bean burritos with all the added condiments you normally use for tacos. Now take some and make refried beans to use for a taco pizza… the beans will be in substitution for the sauce on a regular pizza. Top with about 1/4 cup of ground, cooked breakfast sausage or beef, then top with lettuce, tomatoes and if you have then black olives and jalapeño pepper slices and serve with salsa. The next meal will use the last of the refried beans make bean burger patties: Add in a little bit of flour, dried bread crumbs and any crumbs of Dorito chips if you have saved them like I do( they can be used to coat and mix in with some many things). You shouldn’t need an egg to bind the mixture. Take an ice cream scoop and scoop up as many rounds as you can get. Place on a greased surface. For into rounds and press down to about 1/2” thick. Then freeze ( flat, greased surface) place in a freezer bag after frozen solid and you can make either just patties with Mac & Cheese and a vegetable or treat like a hamburger patty on a bun with some pepper jack cheese with all the condiments your family likes on a bun and served with some sweet potato fries with 15:41 a honey-brown sugar & butter dipping sauce…or just regular fries or tater tots. The chili can be served as a bowl of chili first, then as chili dogs with fresh cabbage shredded to place on top with your favorite condiments. Look how many dishes was created out of one bag of dried kidney beans. This is how I try to stay on budget…by seeing how many meals I can create out of one item and form my meals around it. 😅

Gardening is an experiment every year, even for a seasoned gardener so don’t give up. I have stocked us back up in July and now August so September and October should be low spend months for us thankfully. I just finished cleaning out a cabinet and found more beans and rice that I need to can 🤦‍♀️ I started in mid June. September I start back on peaches, pears, cherries(pie filling) and tomatoes(spaghetti sauce and salsa mainly). I think I am skipping apples again this year except maybe pie filling. I have a friend that loves to come help me can it all too and I share it with her and her husband(older couple). I need to find a good deal on pickling cukes so I can make a lot of pickles and sweet relish too. I am also going to be making my own pork and beans to can. I need to dig out all my jars to make sure I have enough of them. Great job on keeping your budget down and I hope you have a great time on your family vacation!!

I meant complete shock that you're not using a budget. I disagree with just writing down everything you've spent because that's after the fact. I use the basic envelope method . have an envelope for everything that you spend and budget for including insurance, taxes, pet food, food haircuts, entertainment everything. when you get your paycheck, put the allotted cash in each envelope. When it's gone, it's gone no more going to the grocery store. We're no more buying from Amazon. That's the best way to curtail spending and stay on track. You can even have an envelope for savings. If I go to Costco, I use my Costco card since I have points and then I take the money for the food out of the envelope deposit it in the bank and pay off the bill before it even shows up at my house .

    • @homemadesimplewithlori

I understand and agree that a budget is VERY important. We have implemented a system that sends a budgeted amount for food and household items to one card. It is only for a few categories of spending and it is based on our budget that we have set. I have mentioned before how terrible I am about getting cash. I know I would spend less if I did. Maybe I will get in the habit soon. Thanks for your tips and experience! I really appreciate it!
